Music set to a whimsical video - it started as a dream ...
This is a short video that won first prize in a competition run by the Victorian Branch of the Australian Institute of Physics in 2021. The idea is to guess what is the invisible force. This was put together out of bits and pieces of video scenes I already had, during one of the many COVID lockdowns in Australia. It is aimed at secondary school students as an introduction to this particular force of nature ...
My flight from London to Australia was delayed for a day and so, on a suggestion from a friend, I visited Little Venice, which is a region of canals just behind Paddington Station. I had never been there before and was surprised to find this little aquatic oasis in the middle of London. As I had left my video camera at the airport hotel, I shot these scenes on my iphone and then later edited them together.

Researchers at the University of Stuttgart Germany led by Mario Hentschel have developed a method for creating amazingly bright colours using nanoscopic holes in silicon. These holes resonate under exposure to light. Mario used them to create a microscopic version of Wassily Kandinsky’s painting “Improvisation 9”, currently hanging in the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. This is a short music-video showing where Art Meets Science.
